TORONTO – A sentencing hearing is expected to get underway today in a child pornography case involving the man who reviewed Nova Scotia’s public education system in 2011.
Benjamin Levin was also once deputy education minister for Ontario and Manitoba.
Levin pleaded guilty to three child pornography-related charges in a Toronto court last month.
The 63-year-old was originally charged with seven child porn related offences.
In a written statement distributed by his lawyer, Levin has said he’s “deeply ashamed”of his actions.
Court has heard that Levin used to frequent an online website with numerous chatrooms for the discussion of sexual activities.
His profile on the site was created in 2010 and indicated his sexuality as “nothing is taboo.”
In 2010, Levin was hired by Nova Scotia’s education department to review the provincial school system, releasing the Levin Report in 2011.
